The "Zero Tolerance Policy" represents the advancement of school behavior. It is becoming the norm for school punishments. It helps deter students from acting inappropriately by giving them the punishments in a clear and direct manner. In Zero Tolerance School's schools clearly show the students the rules that should be followed on and off of school.
The main goals for Zero Tolerance laws are currently to stop and prevent bullying, violence and drug abuse. Alcopops or "alcohol soft drinks" such as Smirnoff Ice, Mikes Hard Lemonade, and Sparks are often seen as a harmless substitute for other alcohol products. Zero Tolerance policies aim to stop these alcopops from ever entering the school system and help prevent any outside use as well.
By being strict with these rules it will help others think before they act. According to the U.S. Department of Education and the Center for Safe and Responsive Schools around 75% of all schools report having some Zero Tolerance rules for major infractions such as weapons, drugs and physical fighting.
Many schools see this to help prevent racial discrimination by making it apart of their Zero Tolerance rules. The schools have complete power over what they decide to do; giving the schools a more personalized approach to punishments.
